Jordan Lewis
Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)

Life often presents us with situations that can leave us feeling overwhelmed and unsure about how to move through them. Whether it's a loss of a loved one, transitions that cause us to rethink who we are and what we want, or events in which we've been harmed or mistreated - sometimes we all just need a space to explore our thoughts and feelings so that we can gain the confidence to move forward.

For as long as I can remember, I have been fueled by a desire to collaborate with others and be an encouraging, supportive resource to help people explore their inner worlds.

My Story

I have dedicated my life to pursuing my passion for connecting and building relationships with those in need and am deeply fueled by seeing others grow and achieve a greater quality of life. I grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and graduated with my Bachelors in Psychology from William Jewell College, where I played basketball for four years and used my athletic network to train young basketball players in my community. After completing my undergraduate degree, I attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City and graduated with a Master of Arts in Counseling in May 2019. Since that time, I have moved to Phoenix, Arizona with my partner and our dog and am currently licensed in Kentucky and Arizona.

Outside of work, I enjoy staying active through fitness training, traveling with my partner, and spending quality time with my rich circle of supportive friends and family.

Why Impowered?

The two key approaches I take in my therapeutic work are equipping my clients with the knowledge and skills to feel empowered to confidently navigate life's challenges head on; combined with the commitment to a therapeutic journey that promotes a true evolution of the self: an exploration into the events, beliefs, desires and ways of being that make a person who they are. The word Impowered embodies the unifying concept of those two approaches: the goal to empower and the focus on the self, or the "I am" of a person.

My therapeutic philosophy of Impowerment is anchored in three core principles:

  1. [I'M]pathy: We are all familiar with the concept of empathy; being able to share emotional space with another person, and its powerful ability to strengthen bonds and build trust between people. Impathy (or introversive empathy), however, is all about one's ability to hold emotional space for themselves. In my practice, I teach clients how to lean into, understand and embrace their story, their internal world and all the factors that have shaped who they are so that they may deepen the level of closeness with themselves and step into who they truly want to be.

  2. [I'M]provement: People come to therapy looking to better their themselves and their situations. The concept of improvement in my work is all about collaborating with my clients to identify goals, explore the barriers or challenges to reaching those goals, and coming up with solutions and strategies so that they can create better outcomes for themselves.

  3. [I'M]pact: When clients learn to embrace who they are and their story, develop skills and apply those skills to create better outcomes in their lives, the end result is positive impact. They become someone who is able to create the positive change they want to see in their own life, and serve as a model for what's possible to those around them. Their growth, their transformation, their evolution creates an impact that touches all aspects of their own life and those within their orbit - that is true impact.

My Professional Background

I have spent the majority of my professional, educational, and athletic career working alongside individuals of all ages and from diverse backgrounds within the mental health space. Some of the most formative experiences include:

  • Four years within inpatient mental health settings working with youth and adults

  • A professional internship at Associates at Hope Harbor, where I provided individual and group counseling for court mandated clients in the Kansas City metro area

  • Four years of case management experience with Youthrive, a non-profit organization focused on helping youth in the Kansas foster care system successfully transition into adulthood

  • Working in various private practice settings providing individual, couples and group therapy focused on helping predominantly clients of color, addressing men’s issues, and dealing with trauma
